1989 United States Grand Prix

The United States Grand Prix 1989 was the 5th round of the 1989 F1 season, and took place at the Phoenix street circuit in Phoenix, USA, on June 4th.

Alain Prost won the race after starting in the 2nd position, followed by Riccardo Patrese, and Eddie Cheever completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 17th position of the grid.

Ayrton Senna started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he suffered from electrical problems, and had to retire on lap 44th.

These included, Gabriele Tarquini, Luis Pérez-Sala, and Pierluigi Martini, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Jonathan Palmer, who had a fuel system failure on lap 69, Gerhard Berger, and Nigel Mansell, both had a problem with the alternator, Alex Caffi, and Derek Warwick, both retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Nelson Piquet, and Philippe Alliot, both lost control and spun off the track, Stefan Johansson, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 50, Ayrton Senna, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 44, Martin Brundle, Stefano Modena, and Maurício Gugelmin, all of whom saw the breaks of the car give up, Satoru Nakajima, who had a throttle issue on lap 24, Ivan Capelli, who had a transmission problem on lap 22, Michele Alboreto, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 17, Alessandro Nannini, who had physical problems on lap 10, and Piercarlo Ghinzani, Pierre-Henri Raphanel, Gregor Foitek, Nicola Larini, Joachim Winkelhock, Volker Weidler, Aguri Suzuki, Bernd Schneider, and Bertrand Gachot, all of whom did not prequalify.
