These included, Jarno Trulli, and Ralf Schumacher, both suffered an engine malfunction, Jenson Button, Eddie Irvine, Enrique Bernoldi, and Giancarlo Fisichella, all of whom experienced an hydraulic malfunction, Olivier Panis, who suffered from problems with the exhaust on lap 43, Takuma Sato, and Pedro de la Rosa, both lost control and spun off the track, Kimi Räikkönen, who took damage to the rear wing of the car on lap 4, Rubens Barrichello, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 0, and Mark Webber, and Alex Yoong, both had to retire for safety reasons.
