These included, Luca Badoer, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 50, Jacques Villeneuve, Alessandro Zanardi, Olivier Panis, and Marc Gené, all of whom experienced issues with the gearbox, Pedro Diniz, Johnny Herbert, and Jean Alesi, all of whom had a transmission problem, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who had problems with the halfshaft on lap 35.
