These included, Johnny Dumfries, Elio de Angelis, and Riccardo Patrese, all of whom experienced issues with the gearbox, Martin Brundle, Nelson Piquet, Philippe Streiff, Christian Danner, and Piercarlo Ghinzani, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Jacques Laffite, and René Arnoux, both had problems with the halfshaft, Marc Surer, who had a fuel system failure on lap 39, Michele Alboreto, who had a problem witht he wheel bearing on lap 22, Stefan Johansson, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 11, Andrea de Cesaris, and Alessandro Nannini, both had a problem with the differential, and Jonathan Palmer, and Alan Jones, both retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars.
