1993 South African Grand Prix

The South African Grand Prix 1993 was the 1st round of the 1993 F1 season, and took place at the Kyalami in Midrand, South Africa, on March 14th.

Alain Prost won the race from the pole, followed by Ayrton Senna, and Mark Blundell completing the podium.

The reace did not end without incidents... 21 drivers out of the original 26 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Gerhard Berger, Érik Comas, and Karl Wendlinger, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Derek Warwick, Martin Brundle, Riccardo Patrese, Michael Schumacher, Philippe Alliot, and Ivan Capelli, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Michele Alboreto, who suffered from an overall car overhating on lap 55, Johnny Herbert, who had a fuel system failure on lap 38, Rubens Barrichello, and Luca Badoer, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Jean Alesi, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 30, Fabrizio Barbazza, Aguri Suzuki, Damon Hill, Alessandro Zanardi, and Michael Andretti, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, and Ukyo Katayama, and Andrea de Cesaris, both had a transmission problem.
