1980 South African Grand Prix

The South African Grand Prix 1980 was the 3rd round of the 1980 F1 season, and took place at the Kyalami in Midrand, South Africa, on March 1st.

René Arnoux won the race after starting in the 2nd position, followed by Jacques Laffite, and Didier Pironi completing the podium.

Jean-Pierre Jabouille started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had a puncture that could not be repaired, and had to retire on lap 61st.

These included, Geoff Lees, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 70, Bruno Giacomelli, and Jody Scheckter, both suffered an engine malfunction, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, and Derek Daly, both had a puncture that could not be repaired, Keke Rosberg, Alain Prost, and Marc Surer, all of whom had to retire due to an accident, Patrick Depailler, who did not classify on lap 53, Alan Jones, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 34, Gilles Villeneuve, who had a transmission problem on lap 31, and Riccardo Patrese, Eddie Cheever, and Elio de Angelis, all of whom lost control and spun off the track.
