1972 South African Grand Prix

The South African Grand Prix 1972 was the 2nd round of the 1972 F1 season, and took place at the Kyalami in Midrand, South Africa, on March 4th.

Denny Hulme won the race after starting in the 5th position, followed by Emerson Fittipaldi, and Peter Revson completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 12th position of the grid.

Jackie Stewart started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he experienced issues with the gearbox, and had to retire on lap 45th.

These included, John Love, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 73, Howden Ganley, Andrea de Adamich, and Peter Gethin, all of whom did not classify, Jean-Pierre Beltoise, and Tim Schenken, both suffered an engine malfunction, Jackie Stewart, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 45, Mike Hailwood, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 28, Carlos Reutemann, who had a fuel system failure on lap 27, and Dave Charlton, who had a fuel pump failure on lap 2.
