The San Marino Grand Prix 1999 was the 3rd round of the 1999 F1 season, and took place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, on May 2nd.
Michael Schumacher won the race after starting in the 3rd position, followed by David Coulthard, and Rubens Barrichello completing the podium.
Mika Häkkinen started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he lost control and spun off the track, and had to retire on lap 17th.

These included, Johnny Herbert, and Eddie Irvine, both suffered an engine malfunction, Alessandro Zanardi, Pedro Diniz, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Mika Häkkinen, Pedro de la Rosa, Alexander Wurz, and Jarno Trulli, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Olivier Panis, and Ralf Schumacher, both had a throttle issue, Toranosuke Takagi, who suffered a fuel pressure loss on lap 29, and Jacques Villeneuve, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 0.

From 1996 to 2002 the grid order was decided in a single qualifying session which would last 1 hour. During this time each driver had a maximun of 12 laps to set their best time.
This time around, Mika Häkkinen managed to secure the pole position with a time of 1:26.362 seconds, with his teammate David Coulthard rigth behind him at 0.022 seconds, helping McLaren score a one-two and monopolize the first line of the grid.
