These included, Damon Hill, who experienced an hydraulic malfunction on lap 57, Ricardo Rosset, Toranosuke Takagi, Shinji Nakano, Pedro Diniz, and Alexander Wurz, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Jarno Trulli, who had a throttle issue on lap 34, Mika Häkkinen, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 17, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Rubens Barrichello, both lost control and spun off the track, Johnny Herbert, who had a puncture that could not be repaired on lap 12, and Jan Magnussen, who had a transmission problem on lap 8.
