1991 San Marino Grand Prix

The San Marino Grand Prix 1991 was the 3rd round of the 1991 F1 season, and took place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, on April 28th.

Ayrton Senna won the race from the pole, followed by Gerhard Berger, and Jyrki Järvilehto completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 16th position of the grid.

The reace did not end without incidents... 22 drivers out of the original 34 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Eric van de Poele, who run out of fuel on lap 57, Maurício Gugelmin, Roberto Moreno, and Éric Bernard, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Stefano Modena, and Satoru Nakajima, both had a transmission problem, Andrea de Cesaris, and Gianni Morbidelli, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Bertrand Gachot, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 37, Ivan Capelli, Jean Alesi, Aguri Suzuki, Nelson Piquet, and Alain Prost, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Riccardo Patrese, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 17, Nigel Mansell, who retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars on lap 0, and Emanuele Pirro, Olivier Grouillard, Nicola Larini, and Pedro Chaves, all of whom did not prequalify.
