1985 San Marino Grand Prix

The San Marino Grand Prix 1985 was the 3rd round of the 1985 F1 season, and took place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, on May 5th.

Elio de Angelis won the race after starting in the 3rd position, followed by Thierry Boutsen, and Patrick Tambay completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 11th position of the grid.

Ayrton Senna started from the pole position, but only managed to finish 7th.

Incidents

The reace did not end without incidents... 21 drivers out of the original 26 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Stefan Johansson, Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Martin Brundle, and Derek Warwick, all of whom run out of fuel, Eddie Cheever, Manfred Winkelhock, Philippe Alliot, François Hesnault, Stefan Bellof, Gerhard Berger, and Riccardo Patrese, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Piercarlo Ghinzani, who did not classify on lap 46, Michele Alboreto, and Mauro Baldi, both suffered from electrical problems, Keke Rosberg, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 23, Jacques Laffite, and Pierluigi Martini, both had a turbo failure, Andrea de Cesaris, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 11, and Jonathan Palmer, who had to retire on lap 0.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Alain Prost.
