1984 San Marino Grand Prix

The San Marino Grand Prix 1984 was the 4th round of the 1984 F1 season, and took place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, on May 6th.

Alain Prost won the race after starting in the 2nd position, followed by René Arnoux, and Elio de Angelis completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 11th position of the grid.

Nelson Piquet started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had a turbo failure, and had to retire on lap 48th.

The reace did not end without incidents... 20 drivers out of the original 28 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Elio de Angelis, Andrea de Cesaris, and Eddie Cheever, all of whom run out of fuel, Philippe Alliot, Nelson Piquet, Teo Fabi, Marc Surer, and Manfred Winkelhock, all of whom had a turbo failure, Johnny Cecotto, who did not classify on lap 52, Jo Gartner, Niki Lauda, and Jacques Laffite, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Michele Alboreto, who suffered from problems with the exhaust on lap 23, Riccardo Patrese, and Keke Rosberg, both suffered from electrical problems, Nigel Mansell, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 2, and Patrick Tambay, and François Hesnault, both retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify 2 drivers.
