1988 Portuguese Grand Prix

The Portuguese Grand Prix 1988 was the 13th round of the 1988 F1 season, and took place at the Autódromo do Estoril in Estoril, Portugal, on September 25th.

Alain Prost won the race from the pole, followed by Ivan Capelli, and Thierry Boutsen completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 13th position of the grid.

These included, Maurício Gugelmin, Pierluigi Martini, Philippe Alliot, and Stefan Johansson, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Nigel Mansell, Gerhard Berger, and Satoru Nakajima, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Jonathan Palmer, who suffered from an overall car overhating on lap 53, Alessandro Nannini, who on lap 52, Nelson Piquet, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 34, Riccardo Patrese, who had a problem with the radiator of the car on lap 29, Yannick Dalmas, who had a problem with the alternator on lap 20, Andrea de Cesaris, who had problems with the halfshaft on lap 11, Eddie Cheever, who had a turbo failure on lap 10, and Oscar Larrauri, who did not prequalify on lap 0.
