These included, Jean Alesi, and Jarno Trulli, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Olivier Panis, who had a wheel problem on lap 49, Ralf Schumacher, Jan Magnussen, and Rubens Barrichello, all of whom suffered a suspension problem, Alexander Wurz, and Esteban Tuero, both lost control and spun off the track, David Coulthard, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 17, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars on lap 5.
