These included, Riccardo Patrese, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 64, Jacques Laffite, and Andrea de Cesaris, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Marc Surer, Derek Warwick, Raul Boesel, Manfred Winkelhock, Michele Alboreto, and Nigel Mansell, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Elio de Angelis, who had problems with the halfshaft on lap 49, Jean-Pierre Jarier, and René Arnoux, both suffered a suspension problem, Eddie Cheever, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 30, and Johnny Cecotto, and Roberto Guerrero, both did not prequalify.
