These included, James Hunt, and Mike Beuttler, both suffered an engine malfunction, Wilson Fittipaldi, who had a fuel system failure on lap 71, Jean-Pierre Jarier, Carlos Reutemann, and Niki Lauda, all of whom experienced issues with the gearbox, Graham Hill, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 62, Arturo Merzario, who suffered a loss in oil pressure on lap 58, Jacky Ickx, Howden Ganley, Carlos Pace, and Nanni Galli, all of whom had problems with the halfshaft, Jean-Pierre Beltoise, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 39, David Purley, who had a fuel leak on lap 31, Chris Amon, who suffered from an overall car overhating on lap 22, and Clay Regazzoni, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 15.
