These included, Mark Blundell, Jyrki Järvilehto, Michele Alboreto, Ivan Capelli, Maurício Gugelmin, Olivier Grouillard, and Gerhard Berger, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Bertrand Gachot, and Pierluigi Martini, both lost control and spun off the track, Aguri Suzuki, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 48, Nelson Piquet, who had a problem witht he wheel bearing on lap 44, Jean Alesi, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 42, Martin Brundle, who had a wheel problem on lap 20, Alain Prost, who had a problem with the alternator on lap 16, and Nicola Larini, Eric van de Poele, Pedro Chaves, and Emanuele Pirro, all of whom did not prequalify.
