Qualifying
This qualifying was divided into 2 sessions. A single lap with low fuel on Saturday afternoon, and a single lap with race fuel on Sunday monring. The two times would then be agregated in order to determine the grid order. This quali format was very unpoupar, and only lasted for the first 6 races of the season. After that the quali was reverted to one-lap qualifying format for the rest of the season.
Fernando Alonso dominated all the qualifying sessions and took the pole position.
Track evolution
Drivers were 2.873 seconds slower on average on Sunday morning than they were on Saturday afternoon. This was to be expected, since the Saturday session was completed with fuel for just one lap and the Sunday session with full tanks.
