1989 Italian Grand Prix

The Italian Grand Prix 1989 was the 12th round of the 1989 F1 season, and took place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Monza, Italy, on September 10th.

Alain Prost won the race after starting in the 4th position, followed by Gerhard Berger, and Thierry Boutsen completing the podium.

Ayrton Senna started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he suffered an engine malfunction, and had to retire on lap 44th.

These included, Satoru Nakajima, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 51, Alex Caffi, Andrea de Cesaris, Ayrton Senna, Ivan Capelli, and Jonathan Palmer, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Nigel Mansell, and Nicola Larini, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Bertrand Gachot, who had a problem with the radiator of the car on lap 38, Alessandro Nannini, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 33, Olivier Grouillard, who suffered from problems with the exhaust on lap 30, Nelson Piquet, and Philippe Alliot, both lost control and spun off the track, Derek Warwick, who had a fuel system failure on lap 18, Michele Alboreto, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 14, Maurício Gugelmin, who had a throttle issue on lap 14, Emanuele Pirro, who had a transmission problem on lap 0, and Stefan Johansson, Gabriele Tarquini, Roberto Moreno, Piercarlo Ghinzani, Bernd Schneider, Aguri Suzuki, Oscar Larrauri, Yannick Dalmas, and Enrico Bertaggia, all of whom did not prequalify.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Stefano Modena at the end of the race.
