1986 Italian Grand Prix

The Italian Grand Prix 1986 was the 13th round of the 1986 F1 season, and took place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Monza, Italy, on September 7th.

Nelson Piquet won the race after starting in the 6th position, followed by Nigel Mansell, and Stefan Johansson completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 12th position of the grid.

Teo Fabi started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had a puncture that could not be repaired, and had to retire on lap 44th.

The reace did not end without incidents... 17 drivers out of the original 27 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Alex Caffi, who did not classify on lap 45, Teo Fabi, and Ivan Capelli, both had a puncture that could not be repaired, Michele Alboreto, Andrea de Cesaris, Jonathan Palmer, Philippe Alliot, and Huub Rothengatter, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, René Arnoux, and Johnny Dumfries, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Derek Warwick, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 16, Alessandro Nannini, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 15, Piercarlo Ghinzani, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 12, Patrick Tambay, and Riccardo Patrese, both had to retire due to an accident, and Ayrton Senna, who had a transmission problem on lap 0.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Alain Prost.
