1960 Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 1960 was the 3rd round of the 1960 F1 season, and took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, USA, on May 30th.

Jim Rathmann won the race after starting in the 2nd position, followed by Rodger Ward, and Paul Goldsmith completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 26th position of the grid.

Eddie Sachs started from the pole position, but only managed to finish 21st.

The reace did not end without incidents... 20 drivers out of the original 33 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Shorty Templeman, Anthony Foyt, and Al Herman, all of whom had a problem with the clutch, Jim Hurtubise, Tony Bettenhausen, Johnny Boyd, and Len Sutton, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Jimmy Bryan, who had a fuel system failure on lap 152, Troy Ruttman, who had problems with an axle on lap 134, Eddie Sachs, Don Freeland, and Dempsey Wilson, all of whom had an issue with a magneto, Wayne Weiler, and Eddie Russo, both had to retire due to an accident, and Gene Force, Jim McWithey, and Dick Rathmann, all of whom saw the breaks of the car give up.
