1958 Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 1958 was the 4th round of the 1958 F1 season, and took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, USA, on May 30th.

Jimmy Bryan won the race after starting in the 7th position, followed by George Amick, and Johnny Boyd completing the podium.

Dick Rathmann started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had to retire due to an accident, and had to retire on lap 0th.

The reace did not end without incidents... 20 drivers out of the original 33 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Bob Christie, and Anthony Foyt, both lost control and spun off the track, Dempsey Wilson, who saw the heat shield literally lit up in fire on lap 151, Paul Russo, who had a throttle issue on lap 122, Shorty Templeman, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 116, Rodger Ward, and Billy Garrett, both had an issue with a magneto, Eddie Sachs, who had a transmission problem on lap 68, Johnny Thomson, who had issues with the steering of the car on lap 52, Chuck Weyant, Bob Veith, Dick Rathmann, Ed Elisian, Pat O'Connor, Paul Goldsmith, Jerry Unser, Len Sutton, and Art Bisch, all of whom had to retire due to an accident, and Jack Turner, who had a fuel pump failure on lap 21.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Mike Magill.
