1957 Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 1957 was the 3rd round of the 1957 F1 season, and took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, USA, on May 30th.

Sam Hanks won the race with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 13th position of the grid, followed by Jim Rathmann, and Jimmy Bryan completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 15th position of the grid.

Pat O'Connor started from the pole position, but only managed to finish 8th.

These included, Jimmy Reece, who had a throttle issue on lap 182, Don Edmunds, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 170, Johnnie Tolan, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 138, Al Herman, Mike Magill, Al Keller, Jimmy Daywalt, Eddie Russo, and Elmer George, all of whom had to retire due to an accident, Fred Agabashian, Eddie Sachs, and Bill Cheesbourg, all of whom had a fuel leak, Eddie Johnson, who had a problem witht he wheel bearing on lap 93, Ed Elisian, who had to retire on lap 51, Rodger Ward, who had a turbo failure on lap 27, and Troy Ruttman, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 13.
