1955 Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 1955 was the 3rd round of the 1955 F1 season, and took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, USA, on May 30th.

Bob Sweikert won the race with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 14th position of the grid, followed by Tony Bettenhausen, and Jimmy Davies completing the podium.

Jerry Hoyt started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had an oil leak, and had to retire on lap 40th.

These included, Don Freeland, Shorty Templeman, and Sam Hanks, all of whom had a transmission problem, Cal Niday, Bill Vukovich, Al Keller, Rodger Ward, and Johnny Boyd, all of whom had to retire due to an accident, Art Cross, Ray Crawford, and Jimmy Reece, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Keith Andrews, and Jimmy Bryan, both had a fuel pump failure, Johnnie Parsons, and Jack McGrath, both had an issue with a magneto, Eddie Russo, who had issues with the ignition on lap 112, Ed Elisian, who had to retire on lap 53, Jerry Hoyt, who had an oil leak on lap 40, and Fred Agabashian, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 39.
