These included, Jacques Villeneuve, who saw the engine literally burn up in fire on lap 56, Juan Pablo Montoya, who suffered a driveshaft problem on lap 41, Robert Doornbos, who experienced an hydraulic malfunction on lap 26, and David Coulthard, and Christian Klien, both had to retire due to an accident.

Qualifying
After the fiasco of the two one-lap sessions that the F1 had envisioned for the 2005 seasosn, and that they decided to drop after just 6 races, the rest of the season's qualifyings were disputed on a single on-lap format, as it happened in this race.
This time around, Michael Schumacher managed to secure the pole position with a time of 1:19.882 seconds, 0.897 seconds faster than Juan Pablo Montoya, who completed the first line of the grid.
