The reace did not end without incidents... 14 drivers out of the original 24 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Michael Schumacher, Martin Brundle, Pedro Diniz, Taki Inoue, and Mika Häkkinen, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Eddie Irvine, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 70, Mika Salo, who had a throttle issue on lap 58, Mark Blundell, who had a fuel leak on lap 54, Ukyo Katayama, and Giovanni Lavaggi, both lost control and spun off the track, Massimiliano Papis, and Jean Alesi, both saw the breaks of the car give up, and Roberto Moreno, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 8.
