Michael Schumacher won the race from the pole, followed by Damon Hill, and Jos Verstappen completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 12th position of the grid.

The reace did not end without incidents... 16 drivers out of the original 28 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Martin Brundle, and Johnny Herbert, both suffered from electrical problems, Gerhard Berger, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 72, Christian Fittipaldi, who had a transmission problem on lap 69, David Coulthard, and Pierluigi Martini, both lost control and spun off the track, Jean Alesi, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Andrea de Cesaris, Gianni Morbidelli, Ukyo Katayama, Eddie Irvine, and Rubens Barrichello, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Philippe Alliot, who suffered a water leak on lap 21, and Jean-Marc Gounon, who on lap 9.
