These included, Ayrton Senna, who run out of fuel on lap 44, Alain Prost, and Nicola Larini, both lost control and spun off the track, Ivan Capelli, Jyrki Järvilehto, Nelson Piquet, Érik Comas, Mika Häkkinen, and Aguri Suzuki, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Satoru Nakajima, and Maurício Gugelmin, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Gianni Morbidelli, and Pierluigi Martini, both had a problem with the differential, Éric Bernard, who had a transmission problem on lap 9, and Olivier Grouillard, Alex Caffi, Fabrizio Barbazza, and Pedro Chaves, all of whom did not prequalify.
