Nelson Piquet won the race after starting in the 5th position, followed by Ayrton Senna, and Nigel Mansell completing the podium.

These included, Keke Rosberg, and Alain Prost, both run out of fuel, Stefan Johansson, who took damage to the wing of the car on lap 41, Christian Danner, Riccardo Patrese, and Thierry Boutsen, all of whom had a turbo failure, Huub Rothengatter, and Andrea de Cesaris, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Jonathan Palmer, Philippe Alliot, and Philippe Streiff, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Martin Brundle, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 34, Alessandro Nannini, who suffered from an overall car overhating on lap 19, Johnny Dumfries, who had a problem with the radiator of the car on lap 17, Piercarlo Ghinzani, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 10, Michele Alboreto, who had a transmission problem on lap 6, and Teo Fabi, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 0.
