These included, Jenson Button, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 62, Johnny Herbert, Alexander Wurz, Eddie Irvine, Ralf Schumacher, and Jarno Trulli, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Ricardo Zonta, and Jos Verstappen, both lost control and spun off the track, Marc Gené, who had a throttle issue on lap 47, Jacques Villeneuve, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, both suffered an engine malfunction, and Mika Salo, who had problems with the halfshaft on lap 27.
