1983 Dutch Grand Prix

The Dutch Grand Prix 1983 was the 12th round of the 1983 F1 season, and took place at the Circuit Park Zandvoort in Zandvoort, Netherlands, on August 28th.

René Arnoux won the race after starting in the 10th position, followed by Patrick Tambay, and John Watson completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 15th position of the grid.

Nelson Piquet started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, and had to retire on lap 41st.

Incidents

The reace did not end without incidents... 16 drivers out of the original 29 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Corrado Fabi, Thierry Boutsen, Danny Sullivan, and Andrea de Cesaris, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Bruno Giacomelli, Alain Prost, and Nigel Mansell, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Keke Rosberg, who had issues with the ignition on lap 53, Nelson Piquet, who retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars on lap 41, Eddie Cheever, and Elio de Angelis, both suffered from electrical problems, Jacques Laffite, who on lap 37, Niki Lauda, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 25, and Jean-Pierre Jarier, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 3.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Manfred Winkelhock.
