The Detroit Grand Prix 1982 was the 7th round of the 1982 F1 season, and took place at the Detroit Street Circuit in Detroit, USA, on June 6th.

John Watson won the race with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 17th position of the grid, followed by Eddie Cheever, and Didier Pironi completing the podium.

Alain Prost started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he did not classify, and had to retire on lap 54th.

These included, Alain Prost, who did not classify on lap 54, Nigel Mansell, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 44, Niki Lauda, Bruno Giacomelli, Roberto Guerrero, Riccardo Patrese, Raul Boesel, and Mauro Baldi, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Michele Alboreto, Eliseo Salazar, and Manfred Winkelhock, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Elio de Angelis, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 17, Andrea de Cesaris, who had a transmission problem on lap 2, Jean-Pierre Jarier, who had issues with the ignition on lap 2, and Riccardo Paletti, who had to retire on lap 0.
