These included, Pedro Lamy, Ricardo Rosset, and Ukyo Katayama, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Luca Badoer, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Gerhard Berger, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 42, Michael Schumacher, who had problems with the halfshaft on lap 41, Olivier Panis, Mika Salo, Pedro Diniz, and Jos Verstappen, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Rubens Barrichello, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 22, Andrea Montermini, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 22, and Eddie Irvine, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 1.
