1989 Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix 1989 was the 6th round of the 1989 F1 season, and took place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, on June 18th.

Thierry Boutsen won the race after starting in the 6th position, followed by Riccardo Patrese, and Andrea de Cesaris completing the podium.

Alain Prost started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he suffered a suspension problem, and had to retire on lap 2nd.

Incidents

The reace did not end without incidents... 28 drivers out of the original 39 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Ayrton Senna, and Derek Warwick, both suffered an engine malfunction, Roberto Moreno, who had a problem with the differential on lap 57, Jonathan Palmer, Ivan Capelli, Philippe Alliot, Luis Pérez-Sala, Gabriele Tarquini, and Eddie Cheever, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Nicola Larini, Maurício Gugelmin, and Michele Alboreto, all of whom suffered from electrical problems, Gerhard Berger, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 6, Alain Prost, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 2, Stefano Modena, and Pierluigi Martini, both had to retire due to an accident, and Martin Brundle, Bertrand Gachot, Gregor Foitek, Piercarlo Ghinzani, Bernd Schneider, Joachim Winkelhock, Volker Weidler, Aguri Suzuki, and Pierre-Henri Raphanel, all of whom did not prequalify.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify 3 drivers.
