1983 Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix 1983 was the 8th round of the 1983 F1 season, and took place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, on June 12th.

René Arnoux won the race from the pole, followed by Eddie Cheever, and Patrick Tambay completing the podium.

Incidents

The reace did not end without incidents... 16 drivers out of the original 28 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Riccardo Patrese, Jacques Laffite, and Jean-Pierre Jarier, all of whom experienced issues with the gearbox, Derek Warwick, who had a turbo failure on lap 47, Bruno Giacomelli, Andrea de Cesaris, Roberto Guerrero, and Corrado Fabi, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Nigel Mansell, who on lap 43, Raul Boesel, who had problems with the halfshaft on lap 32, Johnny Cecotto, who had a problem with the differential on lap 17, Nelson Piquet, and Elio de Angelis, both had a throttle issue, Niki Lauda, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 11, and Marc Surer, who had a transmission problem on lap 14.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Danny Sullivan.
