These included, Mario Andretti, who run out of fuel on lap 66, Nelson Piquet, and Jacky Ickx, both experienced issues with the gearbox, Vittorio Brambilla, who had a fuel system failure on lap 52, Jean-Pierre Jarier, Derek Daly, Patrick Tambay, and Jacques Laffite, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Hector Rebaque, who experienced problems with the chassis of the car on lap 26, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 24, Elio de Angelis, who had issues with the ignition on lap 24, Carlos Reutemann, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 23, Riccardo Patrese, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 20, René Arnoux, and Hans-Joachim Stuck, both had to retire due to an accident, and Niki Lauda, who withdrew on lap 0.
