1978 Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix 1978 was the 16th round of the 1978 F1 season, and took place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, on October 8th.

Gilles Villeneuve won the race after starting in the 3rd position, followed by Jody Scheckter, and Carlos Reutemann completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 11th position of the grid.

Jean-Pierre Jarier started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had an oil leak, and had to retire on lap 49th.

These included, Jacques Laffite, who had a transmission problem on lap 52, James Hunt, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 51, Jean-Pierre Jarier, who had an oil leak on lap 49, René Arnoux, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 37, Bobby Rahal, who had a fuel system failure on lap 16, John Watson, Hans-Joachim Stuck, and Emerson Fittipaldi, all of whom had to retire due to an accident, Niki Lauda, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 5, and Rolf Stommelen, and Michael Bleekemolen, both did not prequalify.
