Clay Regazzoni won the race after starting in the 4th position, followed by René Arnoux, and Jean-Pierre Jarier completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 16th position of the grid.
Alan Jones started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he had a water pump failure, and had to retire on lap 38th.
