1989 Brazilian Grand Prix

The Brazilian Grand Prix 1989 was the 1st round of the 1989 F1 season, and took place at the Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on March 26th.

Nigel Mansell won the race after starting in the 6th position, followed by Alain Prost, and Maurício Gugelmin completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 12th position of the grid.

Ayrton Senna started from the pole position, but only managed to finish 11th.

These included, Riccardo Patrese, who had a problem with the alternator on lap 51, Eddie Cheever, Bernd Schneider, Gerhard Berger, and Luis Pérez-Sala, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Martin Brundle, and Stefano Modena, both had problems with the halfshaft, Ivan Capelli, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 22, Nelson Piquet, who had a fuel system failure on lap 10, Thierry Boutsen, who suffered an engine malfunction on lap 3, Pierluigi Martini, who experienced problems with the chassis of the car on lap 2, and Alex Caffi, Piercarlo Ghinzani, Volker Weidler, Pierre-Henri Raphanel, Joachim Winkelhock, Aguri Suzuki, Stefan Johansson, and Bertrand Gachot, all of whom did not prequalify.
