1988 Belgian Grand Prix

The Belgian Grand Prix 1988 was the 11th round of the 1988 F1 season, and took place at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Spa, Belgium, on August 28th.

Ayrton Senna won the race from the pole, followed by Alain Prost, and Ivan Capelli completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 14th position of the grid.

The reace did not end without incidents... 17 drivers out of the original 31 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Stefan Johansson, Michele Alboreto, Riccardo Patrese, Satoru Nakajima, and Yannick Dalmas, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Jonathan Palmer, who had a throttle issue on lap 39, Bernd Schneider, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 38, Gabriele Tarquini, who had issues with the steering of the car on lap 36, Maurício Gugelmin, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 29, Piercarlo Ghinzani, who had an oil leak on lap 25, Nicola Larini, who had a fuel system failure on lap 14, Gerhard Berger, who had an problem with the injection on lap 11, Andrea de Cesaris, and René Arnoux, both had to retire due to an accident, and Oscar Larrauri, who did not prequalify on lap 0.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify 2 drivers.
