1982 Belgian Grand Prix

The Belgian Grand Prix 1982 was the 5th round of the 1982 F1 season, and took place at the Zolder in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, on May 9th.

John Watson won the race after starting in the 10th position, followed by Keke Rosberg, and Eddie Cheever completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 14th position of the grid.

Alain Prost started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he lost control and spun off the track, and had to retire on lap 59th.

The reace did not end without incidents... 24 drivers out of the original 32 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Derek Daly, Alain Prost, and Riccardo Patrese, all of whom lost control and spun off the track, Jochen Mass, Brian Henton, and Michele Alboreto, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Mauro Baldi, who had a throttle issue on lap 51, Jean-Pierre Jarier, who took damage to the wing of the car on lap 37, Andrea de Cesaris, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 34, Derek Warwick, who had a transmission problem on lap 29, Teo Fabi, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 13, Nigel Mansell, and Manfred Winkelhock, both had a problem with the clutch, René Arnoux, who had a turbo failure on lap 7, Bruno Giacomelli, and Eliseo Salazar, both retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Didier Pironi, who withdrew on lap 0, Gilles Villeneuve, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 0, and Riccardo Paletti, and Emilio de Villota, both did not prequalify.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Niki Lauda.
