1979 Belgian Grand Prix

The Belgian Grand Prix 1979 was the 6th round of the 1979 F1 season, and took place at the Zolder in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, on May 13th.

Jody Scheckter won the race after starting in the 7th position, followed by Jacques Laffite, who originally had the pole position, and Didier Pironi completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 12th position of the grid.

These included, Patrick Depailler, James Hunt, Bruno Giacomelli, Elio de Angelis, and Clay Regazzoni, all of whom had to retire due to an accident, Alan Jones, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 39, Mario Andretti, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 27, Nelson Piquet, and Niki Lauda, both suffered an engine malfunction, René Arnoux, and Jean-Pierre Jabouille, both had a turbo failure, Jochen Mass, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 17, and Hector Rebaque, who had a transmission problem on lap 13.
