2001 Austrian Grand Prix

The Austrian Grand Prix 2001 was the 6th round of the 2001 F1 season, and took place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, on May 13th.

David Coulthard won the race after starting in the 7th position, followed by Michael Schumacher, who originally had the pole position, and Rubens Barrichello completing the podium.

Incidents

The reace did not end without incidents... 11 drivers out of the original 22 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Jenson Button, and Giancarlo Fisichella, both suffered an engine malfunction, Pedro de la Rosa, and Mika Häkkinen, both had a transmission problem, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Enrique Bernoldi, both experienced an hydraulic malfunction, Fernando Alonso, Tarso Marques, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, all of whom experienced issues with the gearbox, and Ralf Schumacher, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 10.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Jarno Trulli.
