1979 Austrian Grand Prix

The Austrian Grand Prix 1979 was the 11th round of the 1979 F1 season, and took place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, on August 12th.

Alan Jones won the race after starting in the 2nd position, followed by Gilles Villeneuve, and Jacques Laffite completing the podium.

René Arnoux started from the pole position, but only managed to finish 6th.

These included, Niki Lauda, Elio de Angelis, Nelson Piquet, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jacky Ickx, and Jochen Mass, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Patrick Gaillard, and Riccardo Patrese, both suffered a suspension problem, Carlos Reutemann, who on lap 22, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 16, Keke Rosberg, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 15, Emerson Fittipaldi, who saw the breaks of the car give up on lap 15, Jan Lammers, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 3, and Mario Andretti, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 0.
