The Australian Grand Prix 2000 was the 1st round of the 2000 F1 season, and took place at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne, Australia, on March 12th.
Michael Schumacher won the race after starting in the 3rd position, followed by Rubens Barrichello, and Ralf Schumacher completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 11th position of the grid.
Mika Häkkinen started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he suffered an engine malfunction, and had to retire on lap 18th.

These included, Jenson Button, Jarno Trulli, Mika Häkkinen, and David Coulthard, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Pedro Diniz, who had a transmission problem on lap 41, Gastón Mazzacane, who experienced issues with the gearbox on lap 40, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, and Jean Alesi, both experienced an hydraulic malfunction, Jos Verstappen, and Pedro de la Rosa, both suffered a suspension problem, Eddie Irvine, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 6, and Johnny Herbert, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 1.

Qualifying
From 1996 to 2002 the grid order was decided in a single qualifying session which would last 1 hour. During this time each driver had a maximun of 12 laps to set their best time.
This time around, Mika Häkkinen managed to secure the pole position with a time of 1:30.556 seconds, with his teammate David Coulthard rigth behind him at 0.354 seconds, helping McLaren score a one-two and monopolize the first line of the grid.
