1988 Australian Grand Prix

The Australian Grand Prix 1988 was the 16th round of the 1988 F1 season, and took place at the Adelaide Street Circuit in Adelaide, Australia, on November 13th.

Alain Prost won the race after starting in the 2nd position, followed by Ayrton Senna, who originally had the pole position, and Nelson Piquet completing the podium.

The reace did not end without incidents... 20 drivers out of the original 31 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Andrea de Cesaris, Stefan Johansson, and Philippe Alliot, all of whom run out of fuel, Philippe Streiff, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 73, Piercarlo Ghinzani, who had a fuel system failure on lap 69, Nigel Mansell, and Alessandro Nannini, both lost control and spun off the track, Stefano Modena, and Oscar Larrauri, both had problems with the halfshaft, Derek Warwick, Eddie Cheever, and Luis Pérez-Sala, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Maurício Gugelmin, Satoru Nakajima, Gerhard Berger, René Arnoux, and Michele Alboreto, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Alex Caffi, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 32, Jonathan Palmer, who had a transmission problem on lap 16, and Nicola Larini, who did not prequalify on lap 0.
