1985 Australian Grand Prix

The Australian Grand Prix 1985 was the 16th round of the 1985 F1 season, and took place at the Adelaide Street Circuit in Adelaide, Australia, on November 3rd.

Keke Rosberg won the race after starting in the 3rd position, followed by Jacques Laffite, and Philippe Streiff completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 18th position of the grid.

Ayrton Senna started from the pole position, but didn't manage to cross the finish line, as he suffered an engine malfunction, and had to retire on lap 62nd.

The reace did not end without incidents... 19 drivers out of the original 25 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Ayrton Senna, Marc Surer, Teo Fabi, Alain Prost, and Eddie Cheever, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Michele Alboreto, Derek Warwick, Patrick Tambay, and Nigel Mansell, all of whom had a transmission problem, Niki Lauda, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 57, Martin Brundle, who did not classify on lap 49, Riccardo Patrese, who suffered from problems with the exhaust on lap 42, Thierry Boutsen, who had an oil leak on lap 37, Piercarlo Ghinzani, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 28, Alan Jones, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 20, and Nelson Piquet, who saw the heat shield literally lit up in fire on lap 14.

There was also action outise of the track itself, and the stwearts decided to disqualify Elio de Angelis.
