The Argentine Grand Prix 1997 was the 3rd round of the 1997 F1 season, and took place at the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 13th.
Jacques Villeneuve won the race from the pole, followed by Eddie Irvine, and Ralf Schumacher completing the podium.

The reace did not end without incidents... 13 drivers out of the original 22 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.
These included, Jan Magnussen, Pedro Diniz, Shinji Nakano, Jos Verstappen, and Damon Hill, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Nicola Larini, and Ukyo Katayama, both lost control and spun off the track, Giancarlo Fisichella, Michael Schumacher, and David Coulthard, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Rubens Barrichello, who experienced an hydraulic malfunction on lap 24, Olivier Panis, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 18, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who had a problem with the clutch on lap 5.

From 1996 to 2002 the grid order was decided in a single qualifying session which would last 1 hour. During this time each driver had a maximun of 12 laps to set their best time.
This time around, Jacques Villeneuve managed to secure the pole position with a time of 1:24.473 seconds, with his teammate Heinz-Harald Frentzen rigth behind him at 0.798 seconds, helping Williams score a one-two and monopolize the first line of the grid.
