The Argentine Grand Prix 1996 was the 3rd round of the 1996 F1 season, and took place at the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 7th.
Damon Hill won the race from the pole, followed by Jacques Villeneuve, and Jean Alesi completing the podium.

Incidents
The reace did not end without incidents... 12 drivers out of the original 22 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.
These included, Gerhard Berger, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 56, Michael Schumacher, who took damage to the wing of the car on lap 46, Pedro Lamy, and Ukyo Katayama, both had a transmission problem, Mika Salo, and Mika Häkkinen, both had a throttle issue, Martin Brundle, Tarso Marques, and Luca Badoer, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who lost control and spun off the track on lap 32, Pedro Diniz, who saw the heat shield literally lit up in fire on lap 29, and Ricardo Rosset, who had an oil pump failure on lap 24.

From 1996 to 2002 the grid order was decided in a single qualifying session which would last 1 hour. During this time each driver had a maximun of 12 laps to set their best time.
This time around, Damon Hill managed to secure the pole position with a time of 1:30.346 seconds, 0.252 seconds faster than Michael Schumacher, who completed the first line of the grid.
