1980 Argentine Grand Prix

The Argentine Grand Prix 1980 was the 1st round of the 1980 F1 season, and took place at the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on January 13th.

Alan Jones won the race from the pole, followed by Nelson Piquet, and Keke Rosberg completing the podium with an expectacular comeback, all the way from the 13th position of the grid.

The reace did not end without incidents... 17 drivers out of the original 28 who started did not managed to cross the finish line.

These included, Patrick Depailler, Jody Scheckter, Jacques Laffite, Riccardo Patrese, Carlos Reutemann, and Didier Pironi, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Clay Regazzoni, and Emerson Fittipaldi, both did not classify, Gilles Villeneuve, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 36, Marc Surer, who saw the heat shield literally lit up in fire on lap 27, Mario Andretti, who had a fuel system failure on lap 20, Jochen Mass, John Watson, and Jean-Pierre Jabouille, all of whom experienced issues with the gearbox, Elio de Angelis, and René Arnoux, both suffered a suspension problem, and Jean-Pierre Jarier, who retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars on lap 1.
